ZUMTHOR AND OLGIATI: CONTEMPORARY SWISS ARCHITECTS GIVE TALKS AT THE RIBA

24 and 31 March 2009, Jarvis Hall, RIBA, London, W1

Two world-renowned Swiss architects, Valerio Olgiati and Peter Zumthor, will be giving talks this month
at the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). With London currently celebrating Switzerland’s most
famous architect, Le Corbusier, these talks offer an insight into the work of contemporary Swiss architects.
The Le Corbusier Season includes exhibitions, talks and events that complement the highly acclaimed
exhibition Le Corbusier: the Art of Architecture, at the Barbican until 24 May. A 1:1 replica of the only
building Le Corbusier built for his own use, his holiday hut, the Cabanon, is on display at the RIBA
until 28 April, accompanied by a series of gallery talks. For more information on all RIBA talks and events

Details of the contemporary Swiss talks are as follows:

Valerio Olgiati

Tuesday 24 March, 18.30, RIBA

Valerio Olgiati, Professor of Architecture at the Accademia di architettura Mendrisio, Università della Svizzera Italiana, discusses his work, including major architectural projects such as the schoolhouse in Paspels, the Yellow House in Flims, the new university in Lucerne and the museum for the Swiss National Park in Zernez, Switzerland.

Peter Zumthor Dreaming of Buildings to Come True

Tuesday 31 March, 18.30, RIBA

Peter Zumthor talks about his work. Zumthor’s buildings explore the tactile and sensory qualities of places, spaces and materials and his philosophical belief that architecture must be experienced first hand. In 1998, Zumthor received the Carlsberg Architecture Prize for his designs of the Kunsthaus Bregenz in Bregenz, Austria and the Thermal Baths at Vals, Switzerland.

The Le Corbusier Talks at the RIBA are kindly sponsored by Ryder and supported by the Swiss Cultural Fund in Britain.
